Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Home Up

Our second stop was an area known as Garmisch-Partenkirchen.  This is primarily a ski town, so we were about two weeks too early for the crowds and ski nuts.  In fact, the hotel at which we wanted to stay was closed until the 12th, so we had to find another.  Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located at the foot of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany (2,962 m/9,724 ft), and is both one of the principal climatic health spas in the Bavarian Alps and Germany’s premier winter sports metropolis.

We found a great church, St. Anthony's, up the side of a mountain here.  Be sure to check it out in the Churches section of our trip!

This is what I would consider the Downtown area of Garmisch.

Our hotel room - so small it was hard to believe. Nice balcony, though!
